DEVOTION FOR THE WEEK

One of my still favorite programs is Mayberry, The Andy Griffith Show. This show takes place in a small, quiet, laid back town in North Carolina. Back in that day, life was not as complex as it is now; things were at an easier pace, much less stressful.

Are you feeling burned out, stretched beyond your limits? Today, our society is in a rush, rush, go, go, gotta do mindset; noise is everywhere.  It’s no wonder people are feeling burned out.

Do you ever feel the fire and passion you once had for the Lord waning some? Do you feel battered and bruised by life’s demands? We all do from time to time. Maybe it’s time to slow down the pace and get some much needed quiet time with the Lord.

Isaiah 42:3 says this: “A bruised reed He will not break, and a dimly burning wick He will not  quench.

”Ev

eryone needs a Sabbath Day Rest. God set the example when He rested after creation. There is something precious about being still, turning off all noise and eliminating distractions. It’s imperative we take time to reconnect our souls to our Creator.

A friend of mine, Sister Josie, called it ‘wasting time with Jesus’, (not that spending time with the Lord was a waste of time). There is something enjoyable wasting time with a friend by going to lunch, browsing around stores, or just hanging out together.  We can do this with Jesus by taking a walk, sitting quietly on a park bench, sitting in our car and being still.

Jesus tells us He will ‘never’ put out even the smallest fire within us and He will gently restore us if we just give Him time.

Isaiah 30:15 says this: “For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: In returning (to Me) and resting (in Me) you shall be saved; in quietness and in (trusting) confidence shall be your strength,–.”

This week, let’s just ‘waste some time’ with Jesus, He’s wonderful to be with.
