Have you ever had moments when you feel hungry for something; you go to the kitchen looking through the cupboards or fridge only to find there is nothing you really want? Sometimes you grab something only to realize it was not what you were craving for?

It’s highly possible you are not hungry at all; the hunger you feel goes deeper than physical hunger. There are times I have mistaken what I thought was physical hunger when it was actually a spiritual hunger, a soul hunger.

Deut. 8:8 says the following:

“And he humbled you and allowed you to hunger and fed with you with manna, which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you recognize and personally know that man does not live by bread only, but man lives by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord.”

What are you snacking on? What are you trying to fill those inner longings with?

1)      What are you feeding your eyes with?

“The eyes of all wait for You (looking, watching and expecting) and You give them their food in due season.” (Ps. 145:15)

Instead of feasting on too much t.v., movies, electronic games, computer, etc., let’s get our eyes fixed on seeking the Lord and His Word.

2)      Apply your mind to instruction and correction and your ears to words of knowledge.” (Prov. 23:12)

Instead of filling the ears with the latest gossip, news, music that does not bring us closer to God; let’s fill our ears with reports that are uplifting, listening to teaching that raises the faith level.

3)      “And I will give you (spiritual) shepherds after My own heart (in the final time) who will feed you with knowledge and understanding, and judgment.” (Jer. 3:15)

Feeding the mind on God’s Word keeps the thoughts purified, cleansed which puts up a barrier, which guards against the enemy infiltrating the thoughts.

If you have a craving you either cannot satisfy or cannot put your finger on what it is you are hungry for, it could be the Lord drawing you to spend time in His presence and in His Word.

Remember Jesus’ words:

“I have food (nourishment) to eat of which you know nothing and have no idea.”  (John 4:32)

Before I run to the fridge or cupboard when those hunger pangs hit, I need to remind myself to check where those hunger pangs are really coming from.

In John 6:48 Jesus says the following:

“I am the Bread of Life (that gives life-the Living Bread).”

John 6:51:

“I (Myself) am this Living Bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this Bread, he will live forever; and also the Bread that I shall give for the life of the world is My flesh (body).”

Remember, when you have that soul craving, feed on Jesus, our Bread of Life.
